Fast Food Friday: I Failed Miserably

Back in April of 2012 we spent a ridiculous amount of money eating out. So ridiculous that it inspired me to start posting a sort of challenge for myself and my readers to work hard on lowering our eating out expenses. I will include the total amount of any food we ate out of the home. I hope everyone will join in and share how you did for the week, good or bad.

This week has been one of my worst weeks in over 2 months.  Now I admit, it’s not as bad as it was when I originally started this challenge, but it’s greater than I would like it.  Not only because it’s wasted money, but also because it doesn’t really fit in with the real food eating we are trying to do.

Of course we did take a little trip out of town, which would explain some of our eating out expenses.  In all we spent $117.68 eating on in the past week.  I know this will be much better next week, because I am going to focus on what we are eating and planning.  I guess it could be worse when traveling, but we are getting much better at eating on less.

How do you eat when you travel?  What kinds of things do you do to save money?  How did you do on your eating out spending?  Would love to hear your comments and suggestions.

Fast Food Friday: Better Planning

This past week was a better week for spending on eating out.  We spent a total of $26.38 on two different trips.  One was a splurge on two $5 large pizza’s for Super Bowl Sunday, and the other was a lunch date out with my two girls.  We spent the afternoon out running errands and had planned on this little meal together.  I had actually budgeted it in the weekly budget!

So things are getting better on our eating out spending around here.  We even had an evening of ball practice that kept us away from home from 4:30-9:30.  I planned well and we ate our dinner for lunch and took sandwiches, fruit, snacks and drinks with us.  We actually enjoyed our picnic in the car.  The girls were really excited to pack their own lunchboxes for the road.  We may just be onto something here.

Proper planning, after all, will help you in all areas of life.

So how did you do on your eating out this week?  Does eating out tempt you?  Have some fun on the road meal ideas you would like to share?  Leave a comment letting us know, we love to hear from our readers!

In the past week we spent $68.41 on eating out.  That’s not what I wanted it to be.  It kinda hurts when you add it up.  I was sick last Friday and it was not in the cards for me to even cook which resulted in takeout for $30.03.  That could have and should have been avoided for sure, along with a random trip to McDonald’s with the girls yesterday.  Sometime it’s great to just get out of the house though and we had many errands to run.  Most of all though, it boiled down to poor planning on my part due to my being sick last week and weekend.

Every other week the girls have lessons in Little Rock, so we eat lunch afterwards. Sometimes it’s Sam’s, Wendy’s or somewhere else frugal.  We generally spend around $20 for all 5 of us and it gives us time to visit Big Girl if she didn’t get to come home that weekend.  This week we spent $ 22.85.  I’m okay with that because it’s figured into the budget.  Of course if we were tight or having financial difficulties, these things would go.

What I am trying to lower is the expense of any other meals outside the home.  This money could be much better suited for one of our savings funds or to tackle some financial goals.

In the meantime I am also working on eating more “real food” here at practicing frugal, so eating out just doesn’t fit in very well with that goal.

I am starting to get things together and will be planning and preparing better.  Sometimes we get down and need to just get back up and going.  Don’t fret about it, just pick back up where you were and keep on going.

That’s what I’m reminding myself to do this week and it has worked well!  Give yourself grace and keep on plugging away.

How do you keep your eating out expenses down?  What changes would you like to make with your families eating?  I love to hear from my readers.

Fast Food Friday: Could Have Been Worse

This week we spent $36.39 on eating out.  Now this total could have been much worse, but it’s $15.36 more than it should be.  I spent that $15.36 taking the girls to get something to eat before we went grocery shopping last Friday.  We should have eaten before we left the house.  See that’s where improper planning and a lack of discipline can get you in trouble.

I should have made sure we ate before we went to get groceries.  We had plenty of food in the house and it wouldn’t have taken any longer to eat at home than it did at McDonald’s (yuck).  I don’t even like McDonald’s.  Anyways, I will know where the weakness was and i will do my best not to let it happen again.  You know a treat every once in a while is good, but I would rather save that money for one of our goal savings.

I should warn you right now that the total for next week will be higher.  It’s our anniversary next week (22nd) and hubby and I are going out on a date night this weekend to celebrate. Our oldest is babysitting at her school.  The girls are super excited to get to hang out with their sister and her friends at her college.

How did you do on your spending eating out?  Does improper planning cause you to spend more eating out than you want to?

Fast Food Friday: Not Too Bad

I am very happy to report that we spent only $14.20 on eating out this past week.  That is great for us.  The total would have been zero, but the girls were such a big help in cleaning up, cleaning out and decluttering their rooms, that I rewarded them with pizza after we got done one evening.  The good news is that we got things cleaned up quite a bit and werwe able to donate a few large bags to Savers.

How did you do eating out this week?  Care to join in my challenge and save money on your budget?  Why not join in and get motivated to make a change?

Our eating out budget went up dramatically this past week, but we had planned to eat out a couple times over the weekend.  We were out of town for a Christmas parade and went out to eat with family.

This past week we spent $119.28 on eating out expenses.  Definitely a big increase, but since it was planned and in the budget, it was not such a big deal.  Eating out is not a bad thing if you have budgeted for it.  It becomes a problem when it keeps you from paying another bill or takes away from something important.

How did you do eating out this week?  Do you budget regular eating out expenses, or just when needed?

This week was a pretty good week for me!  We spent $48.89 eating out this past week.  In my defense, I did it for the girls!  Well we had a day out that turned long and the girls were being so good, we went to eat lunch together.  Then last night Big Girl had to watch K and the last princess while I went to some training in Little Rock.  I gave her money to take them to eat and to the movies (dollar movies of course).  This was a big treat for them.  They got to spend quality time without momma!

How did you do eating out this week?  Does your eating out expense increase during the holidays?  Leave a comment letting me know.
